Trackheadz – Our Music

“Dreamy and meaningful deep house music”, DJ Magazine rightly called the self-titled debut album by Trackheadz in 2006. I stumbled upon “Our Music” for the first time late last night, although I have no doubt that this track must be a staple in the sets of the likes of Gilles Peterson and Kerri Chandler since nearly a decade. How I missed this underground hit so far is a mystery to me.

A bit reminiscent of the classic Deep Burnt by Pepe Braddock, the track samples Switch’s A Brighter Tomorrow (Motown, 1980) – a song begging to be sampled. House music doesn’t get much deeper than this, and I’ve been digging their entire LP a lot. When you see track titles like “This Thing Called Jazz” you just know that you’re onto something good…
